LITERARY ANALYSIS OF BIAG NI LAM-ANG

TITLE
            Life of Extraordinary Man

INTRODUCTION
In the poetry ‘‘Biag ni Lam-ang’’ by no definite author, the story is about a boy who was very extraordinary. When the baby boy was born, he started to talk and told his mother he should be named Lam-ang. He also chose his godparents and asked where his father was. The story’s setting is in Nalbuan. The characters in the story were Lam-ang, the extraordinary man and his love interest the beautiful Ines Kannoyan. His father named Don Juan who goes to the Igorots Tribe to punish an Igorot band. And his loving mother named Namongan who is very supportive. The rest is Sumarang his rival and Marcos who collected the bones of Lam-ang.

BODY
After nine months of waiting for his father to return, Lam-ang decided he would go look for him. While travelling he dreamed one night of Igorots celebrating the death of his father. Lam-ang was furious and rushed to their village and killed them all, except for one whom he tortured first before releasing. Upon returning to Nalbuan in triumph, he was bathed by women in the Amburayan river. All the fish died because of the dirt and odor from Lam-ang’s body. Lam-ang fell in love with a young woman named Ines Kannnoyan. She lived in Kalanutian and he brought along his rooster and dog to visit her. On the way, Lam-ang met his enemy Sumarang, another suitor of Ines whom he fought and readily defeated. Lam-ang found the house of Ines surrounded by many suitors all of whom were trying to catch her attention. He had his rooster crow, which caused a nearby house to fall. This made Ines look out. He had his dog bark and in n instant the fallen house rose up again. The rooster expressed the love of Lam-ang. The parents agreed to a marriage if Lam-ang could equal their wealth consisting of lands and gold. Lam-ang had no problem fulfilling this condition and they were married.

CONCLUSION
After some time the headman reminded Lam-ang about their tradition that a newly married man had to catch a kind of fish called Rarang. Unfortunately, Lam-ang was swallowed by the shark called Berkakan and died. But with the help of Marcos by getting his bones and with the help of his rooster and dog Lam-ang resurrect again. Lam-ang and his wife lived happily ever after with his rooster and dog. The story was magical and interesting. Magical in a part where his pets take some actions and something will happen. Story was interesting because there are some parts in the story that was impossible to happen in real life.
